Introduction
Water is an essential life supporting commodity and a key resource to support economic development for any country in the world. It has been estimated that by 2050, 4 out of every 10 persons in the world may not have enough fresh water to drink and to use. The water supply shortage is indeed very severe and on a global scale. In view of this, the Centre for Water Research (CWR) is form to provide a holistic approach on a multi-disciplinary platform to address the R&D needs on water infrastructure development.Mission Statement
- To conduct fundamental research on water and wastewater engineering and to serve as a focus point of R&D for water infrastructure needs in Singapore and the regional countries.
- To translate breakthroughs derived from fundamental R&D into innovative water quality enhancement and water reclamation systems that would facilitate Singapore and the regional countries to protect their water environment and to secure adequate water supplies at affordable cost.
- To collaborate with related national institutions/centres and selected overseas universities/research institutions on fundamental research, and with key industry partners on applied R&D.
- To engage in technology transfer to local and regional water infrastructure industry.
- To train technical manpower in water infrastructure research and development.
